Meet three Indian Fashion Designers Bringing Contemporary Aesthetics to Traditional Fashion in India.
With todays political tension, Indian fashion designers are in the spotlight more than ever. India- an eclectic melting pot of culture and tradition, has been a teeming warehouse of ingeniously hand-crafted fabrics that can be discovered in the tiny pockets of the colossal country. The first thought that is associated with the country’s fashion offering is one replete with colour and embellishment. Nobody is to blame for adopting this school of thought, however a young crew of local fashion designers are swiftly changing that view point, by incorporating time-honoured techniques and contemporary tailoring- a flux of minimalism has taken shape. We throw a gaze at the prominent pioneers of this movement. Meet three emerging Indian fashion designers making waves in Fashion.Indian Fashion Designers, Shift by Nimish Shah
Shift by Nimish Shah
Established in 2011, Shift is a womenswear label with an organic resort feel. The brand is created by Nimish Shah, a Mumbai-based designer and graduate from the prestigious London College of Fashion. There’s a graceful femininity about Shah’s aesthetic and he aces certain key pieces that make an encore appearance through his collections such as a lady-like high waist skirt, A-line dresses found in tropical and Batik prints and lounge floor-length tunics. Upon close observation, he uses fabrics that personify a hot summer’s day in India with sustainability at its core- we’re talking about linens and supple silks, his style however is global, its reminiscent of a quintessentially French Isabel Marant with hints of romanticism from Chloe. Minimalism has always been his strong point, he nails it every season with a fresh presentation that never fails to flatter the female form.
