Topman Design Spring Summer 2017 Collection. Topman Presents its SS17 Collection During London Mens Fashion Week.
Topman opened the London Collections Men’s showcase this season with its SS17 collection, introducing an effortlessly kitschy presentation of runway looks that proved not to present themselves to seriously. The collection depicted a nostalgic reference to Britain’s sleepy seaside towns. The set was dramatic, whilst simple. The show opened with “Weekend Pier Club” as the backdrop with a seafaring anchor.
The brand’s latest collection managed to bring sunshine to temperamental London. Models appeared sunburnt, with spots of brown and red makeup canvasing their faces. The collection featured ample sweatshirts, towel robes, puffer jackets and bombers. There was a take on the velour tracksuit that walked the runway several times. English resort towns such as Margate, Torquay, Southend, and Blackpool were written in play fonts across garments. The collection was undeniably British in its underlying nature with elements such as skinny suiting, paper bag waists and plaid prints.
Eclectic and refined, the collection utilized a color palette of dusty pastels, soft stone tones, and the occasional mustard yellow. Details drove the momentum of the collection and captivated our attention. Accents such as red roses embellished pieces, along with ice cream cones and other kitschy slogans. Seemingly Japanese sketched, Hawaiian tropical prints were featured in a series of looks. “Dirty Weekend” and “Life’s a beach then you die” slogans graced the fronts and backs of designs as well.
Hooded kaftans and velour tracksuits added a breath of intrigue on the runway. Stripes were styled under suiting. Embellished ice cream and eye decals adorned silk tops. Plaid London-style suiting paired back to a striped polo walked the runway. Teddy boy trims addressed smoking jackets in soft tones. A boxy bomber with dolphin decals paired back as if suiting to a matching short in camel tones. For a blush pink skinny suit, as well as seen with several others, the hemline was cut just above the ankle rather than grazing the tops of shoes. Styled with this was a loafer without socks, alluding to a true resort atmosphere. Cargo, utility style jackets were included in some looks, whilst more repeatedly was a Margate typed sweater.
The Topman Spring Summer 2017 collection spoke to a seafaring influence, with a reworked, unique feel. For a commercial retail brand, Topman always finds a way to surprise us with its sense of refinement. This latest collection didn’t disappoint and we’re sure these pieces will be a hit for many Seasons to come.
