Thom Browne Mens Spring Summer 2017: Thom Brwone Presents A Brave, Bizaare New World in Paris.
Thom Browne showcased one of the most bizarre, eccentric collections of this men’s fashion season. The show took place in Paris and acted as the closing show to end Paris fashion week. As in all Thom Browne shows, this one proved no different in its theatrical production extending past the lengths of runway. The show was set with beaches of black sand and grey palm trees depicting postcard imagery from the sea. The soundtrack of Thom Browne’s SS17 show began with the notorious Jaws theme song. In a moment of silence requested by Browne himself, the audience gave a moment of silence for the recent death of New York Times photographer, Bill Cunningham.
The collection was perceived by critics as one of the wittiest, most twisted, most memorable collections yet by New York based creative, Thom Browne. The collection featured an excessive quantity of darkened tones of grey and black against stark white. Later on in the show the collection showcased kitschy prints in shades of orange sorbet and cassata. Browne used the wetsuit as a starting point and drew inspiration from such swimwear when designing the menswear collection. As with always mastering the staging of a show, Browne featured the wetsuit on a stationary model who sunbathed throughout the length of the men’s SS17 show.
