Actress Ruth Negga Lands the Cover of VOGUE Magazine.
Ethiopian-Irish actress Ruth Negga proves that she can break boundaries off the screen as she lands the biggest cover of her career yet, VOGUE. While this is her first VOGUE cover, Negga is no stranger to the spotlight. The veteran actress has appeared in numerous films and television shows over the past decade. Perhaps her most acclaimed work is for her upcoming leading role in Loving. The film chronicles the struggle of an interracial couple fighting for the legal right to marry and the civil rights case that ensued.
The cover, photographed by Mario Testino, features Negga outfitted in a floral Alexander Wang top accompanied by a dewey beauty look. Inside the issue the actress poses is an assortment of fresh Spring looks from brands including Christopher Kane, Balenciaga, and Louis Vuitton. Negga also sits down to talk with the magazine about everything from her Irish-Ethiopian heritage to her career. “People have always made assumptions about me,” she shared with VOGUE. “I become very territorial about my identity because it’s been hijacked by so many people, with their own projections,” she adds. “I remember thinking, I’m just me. When you’re a kid, you’re just you, aren’t you? It was when I moved to England that I felt it, because I was Irish and black.” Negga also reveals that she has a very real and emotional connection to her role in Loving. “The film is reminding us that there’s a conversation that we need to be having still.”
