Rihanna Debuts her Spring 2017 Fenty x Puma Collection in Paris.
Just last month Rihanna appeared on the cover of CR fashion book in a provocative portrayal of Marie Antoinette. It appears that the 18th century Queen has had quite the impression on our modern day bad gal. Reviving the lavish splendor of France’s last Queen, Rihanna presents an ornate, sometimes minimal, and overall paradoxical Spring 2017 collection.
The entertainer chose a 19th century mansion as the location for her show, the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild. Located in the Eighth Arrondissement of the city, the venue has hosted collections from the likes of Valentino haute couture and Yves Saint Laurent. The runway weaved through a series of salons offering an expansive, yet intimate vibe. Rihanna found inspiration in 18th century French history. From the decadence of Versailles to the maximalist feeling style mantra of Marie Antoinette, the motif was decidedly revolutionary.
Rihanna offered an interesting mix of textile and silhouette. Similar to the star’s personal wardrobe of oversized meets body-con street style, the collection balanced floor-sweeping hemlines with sheer crops and plunging necklines. The color palette ranged from pink and army green to soft earth tones of taupe and ivory. While iridescent pinks and soft, Eastern influenced patterns caught our attention, the best moments were found in simplicity. Oversized sweatshirts, modern track pants, and loose active dresses – this is the wheelhouse of the Fenty x Puma brand. Perhaps Fenty x Puma’s best successes lie in footwear. Rihanna presented a mix of modern platform creepers, pointy high-heel mules, and pumps. The footwear lineup added a bit of contrast, either dressing up or dressing down looks.
From what we’ve seen so far it appears that Rihanna doesn’t take Fenty x Puma lightly. The brand’s sales are rising and Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma is selling out. If Paris is only just the beginning, one can only imagine what our favorite bad gal has coming up next.
