Givenchy SS16: Givenchy Release First Images from Givenchy SS16 Ad Campaign.
Riccardo Tisci always lets us know what’s on his mind. His thoughts are strewn and finessed across each Givenchy collection as meticulously as the textiles themselves. As of late, the designer seems to be focused on a singular concept, love. Not the cliche type of romance that we’re accustomed to seeing in movies or hearing about in songs, what Tisci is referencing is a movement, a movement that is equally social, political, and personal. The designer has been so enamored by the concept that he’s even put it up in lights twice this year, literally. Our Instagram feeds were flooded with the effervescent lighted signs guarding the entrance of Givenchy’s official Fashion Week after parties in New York and London which read: “I BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF LOVE”.
In a sort of third showing, Tisci has made this mantra the thematic of the Italian fashion house’s upcoming Spring Summer 2016 campaign. Photographed by renown duo Mert and Marcus, the campaign offers a poignant and focused message. Departing from Tisci’s darker, more provocative Givenchy campaigns, this one hits a different note. “Everyone can do something very small, some gesture of love. I’m not saying this will change the world, but the world will be better. I’m a big believer in positive energy, and I’m sure this energy will spread,” he shared with WWD. “People have given me so much love and so much respect and this has helped me to grow.”
Tisci not only has an eye for design, but he’s also quite the model scout. There’s rarely a face seen in a Givenchy campaign that doesn’t go on to become a top model of the moment. For his SS16 campaign, we witness yet another casting fete. With a roster of an astounding 27 models including new faces Isis Bataglia, Lexi Boling, Leila Goldkuhl, Kris Gottschalk, Imaan Hammam, Issa Lish, Lineisy Montero and Greta Varlese alongside Givenchy veterans Mariacarla Boscono, Natalia Vodianova, Lara Stone, Joan Smalls, Miranda Kerr, Candice Swanepoel, Iselin Steiro and Gemma Ward; Tisci presents an impressive culturally diverse cast that truly represents every corner of the world. This was not by chance of course, it’s all a part of the Givenchy revolution.
Adding to Tisci’s enlgihtened campaign is singer Antony Hegarty, now known as Anohni. The artist contributed a verse that is strewn across the bottom of several campaign images: “I am a child on the river, and love waits downstream: A waterfall to steal my breath, and change my mind”.
“He’s a poetic person, and in a few words, he said everything,” Tisci shared with WWD.
We’ll definitely be looking forward to the full release of the Givenchy SS16 Ad Campaign and we’re sure that Tisci is saving the most brilliant moments until just then. In the meantime, it’s nice to be reminded to simply, “BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF LOVE”.
