Ralph Lauren Purple Label Men’s Spring Summer 2017: Ralph Lauren Presents Quite the Cinematic Collection During it’s Milan Collection Debut.
We always know what to expect from classic American brand Ralph Lauren. Nostalgic American style, references to sleepy seaside towns, and an acute focused almost collegiate theme. For the fashion house’s Purple Label Men’s Spring Summer 2017 collection, we were offered the usual royal treatment. Held in a grand Milan Palazzo, the stage was set for another luxurious season of Men’s style statements from America’s most iconic brand.
The Ralph Lauren Purple Label Mens SS17 presentation was filled with incredibly handsome attractions. Aside from the models, the clothes themselves were equally well groomed and debonaire. Travel and exploration is built into the Ralph Lauren brand DNA and each collection offers a unique adventure. The Ralph Lauren man for Spring Summer 2017 finds himself exploring a few different style journeys. One series seemed to be focused on The Adventurer. Outfitted in rich earth tones, we’re offered an assortment of utilitarian pieces including khaki and army green outerwear selections and relaxed cargo pants. There was also the appearance of another explorer, the Art Deco Dandy. Polished and often suited, the dandy is styled in elegant dinner jackets and slim trousers, with a rebellious swagger that’s straight out of a James Bond film. No Ralph Lauren collection would be complete without nautical references and for SS17, we were offered the modern sailor. Striped sweaters paired with lightweight storm jackets and leather details evoked a sense of moody shores and mild, temperate climate.
There was a strong presence of deep blues and pale grays appearing throughout the collection. From two-button suits to silky shirts and sweaters, the color palette served as a transition between the thematics within the collection. Holding the chaos at bay, the brand’s sharp editing eye kept things cohesive. A closer look, however, revealed an almost overwhelming assortment of pieces. The SS17 lineup presented everything from tapered pants to luxe cashmere sweaters accented with university chevron patterns. The brand even showcased some serious street style moments such as an embroidered military jumpsuit.
Ralph Lauren is a brand that’s made its name from offering wearable, aspirational clothing. Lately, some may say that the brand is losing momentum. The group’s new President and CEO, Stefan Larsson, thinks he has the perfect strategy for the future of the brand as he announced his Way Forward plan. With this plan Larsson vowed to speed up the supply chain and focus on the core collections. Through this latest collection we can clearly see how the brand has refocused its attention on iconic iconic items rather than experimentation.
The Ralph Lauren Purple Label Spring Summer 2017 collection was modern and cinematic. Filled with a youthful sense of adventure coupled with mature refinement, the collection dialed into its heritage aesthetic while reaching further toward a new generation of millennials.
