Rag and Bone SS16 Collection New York Fashion Week

When it comes to contemporary and ‘cool’ Marcus Wainwright and David Neville of Rag and Bone are atop our design list. From the debut of the brand’s collection they approached both Men’s and Women’s RTW with a focused yet delicate, laid back aesthetic. Every day street wear pieces become high-fashion must haves and the usual mundane formalities become uber-modern statement making ensembles. After several successful collection seasons and a growing A-list fan base, many are wondering exactly what’s in the future for two undeniably cool dudes who decided to start a label.

Much like the brand’s slightly obscure aesthetic, the show production followed suit. Showgoers were ushered to St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn for an intimate and slightly isolated showing. What attendees found was yet more mystique as the show began to the sounds of a custom soundtrack by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke led by a live Choral arrangement from members of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.

Rag and Bone is known for its innovative tailoring and this is exactly what we saw in the brands Spring 16 Collection. Relaxed cuts flowed across the runway alongside ingenious burst of color and pattern. Strong statement outerwear pieces, jumpsuits, and dresses slashed through the air with a subdued conviction exposing bits of leg and worked fabric details underneath. The color palette was a bit more calm than what we’re used to from the designers with black and white being the main hues. However an electrifying yellow dashed across the room in a few occasions as well as a vibrant hue of orange that found itself somewhere in between tangerine and salmon.

This latest collection from Wainwright and Neville says a lot about how they view dressing women. A quiet sophistication was present in every drape, cut, and stitch. There was something uniquely special about not only how the garments moved , but how the woman moved in them. It was almost as if the clothes themselves provided a sort of contemporary heroin, one who makes her own rule.
