Raf Simon’s Calvin Klein Ad Campaign Features White Underwear and Andy Warhol.
All eyes are on Raf Simons as he begins to share his vision for the Calvin Klein brand. For the designer’s latest project, he makes his mark on the brand’s history of hot adverts, revealing Calvin Klein SS/17. However, this isn’t your average provocative CK ad. Simons was officially announced as the new chief creative officer for Calvin Klein on last year. Up until recently, the designer kept things rather hush hush. That all changed earlier this week when we learned that the iconic Calvin Klein logo was getting a Raf Simon’s update. It turns out that a new logo isn’t all that’s in store as we take a closer look at Simons’s Spring Summer 2017 Calvin Klein campaign.
Lensed by photographer Willy Vanderperre, Simons’s takes a slight departure from the usual super sexy visuals. Instead, the designer offers a more artistic approach, literally. For the campaign, we travel to the Rubell Family Collection in Miami and the the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. Works by names including Andy Warhol, Dan Flavin, Richard Prince and Sterling Ruby are featured alongside models creating a surreal, performance art feeling. “It’s a celebration of Calvin Klein’s iconic underwear and jeans, acknowledging their status as Pop and showing them in the world of art,” Simons’s shared in a statement.
The focus main focus, however, is on the brand’s most iconic fashion pieces, Calvin Klein briefs and denim. Notably, the designer showcases the original Calvin Klein logo on briefs instead of the newly updated version. Simon’s also opts for a celebrity free cast this time around. In recent Season’s we’ve seen stars ranging from pop-star Justin Bieber to top model Kendall Jenner and influencer Cameron Dallas.
