Jeremy Scott Presents the Moschino Men’s Spring Summer 2017 Collection in A Joint Showing with Moschino Resort 2017 in Los Angeles.
Jeremy Scott found the perfect backdrop for his Moschino Men’s Spring Summer 2017 collection debut. While most brands opted to show their collections in the usual international venues of London, Milan, and Paris, Scott brought us to to the energetic city of Los, Angeles. The production offered a joint showing of the Moschino Mens and Resort collections. Filled with the usual Jeremy Scott dreamscapes of enlivened style statements, we were completed immersed within the imagination of the talented designer.
The Moschino Mens SS17 and Resort Collection was debuted at the cultural hub of the city in downtown Los, Angeles. The showcase, a part of Made Los Angeles was set up more like a music festival than a typical runway show. Scheduled on the same day as the opening of L.A. pride (no coincidence there), the Moschino show was the biggest spectacle in town. A joint WME/IMG venture, the runway show was open to the public, and tickets were on sale between $55 and $400. It was a genius PR fete. The house was packed and the scene was pure editorial brilliance. Trendy downtown L.A. show goers were mixed with Pride parade goers and fashion insiders outfitted in an exciting clash of layered style motifs.
Jeremy Scott has slowly infused the Moschino brand with his animated, kitsch meets pop culture style philosophy. The brand’s SS17 showing was perhaps his most personalized collection yet. Paying homage to the eclectic energy of the ’60s, the proclaimed Peoples Designer, offered a collection filled with playful prints and bold saturated colors. Leisure suiting, flared trousers, crop tops, and outerwear painted the runway in a sea of sensory stimulating waves. Dizzying neon green, pink, and orange hues appeared in eclectic mis-matched prints or as solid color-blocked panels. Male models strutted confidently down the catwalk in print bikini bottoms and outerwear. There was not a single shirt used in the Moschino Mens SS17 collection, aside from the sweater seen in look 44. Flashes of skin peeked out beneath psychedelic suiting, bright bomber jackets, and leather moto-inspired outerwear. The women’s looks were equally clad. Print crop tops were tied below the bust, trousers were sheer, and bedazzled bustiers piqued our interest.
The Moschino Mens SS17 and Resort Collection possessed a baroque style mantra. Scott’s more is more approach emerged through the collection’s layering of outspoken prints and accessories. Whimsical florals, cheetah, and leopard motifs added new life to structured tuxedo coats and trousers. The bags had a certain mirrored aesthetic referencing the exact same prints and details seen in the clothing. Completing the looks was an assortment of one-of-a-kind footwear. Colorful strappy sandals, print loafers, and platform numbers added height and a refreshing sense of depth.
Jeremy Scott is a designer who knows his audience very well. For the Moschino Men’s Spring Summer ’17 and Resort ’17 Collections, Scott blends his signature outlandish style aesthetic with the progressive attitude of the Italian fashion house creating a collection with several high notes. The genius of Jeremy Scott is his ability to create signature style moments. When viewed together, the concept can be overwhelming for the timid. This is exactly what he wants. He wants to stop people in their tracks and turn heads. He wants to spark a conversation. We’d say that’s exactly what he’s done for Moschino and this latest collection pushes us that much further off into the deep end of the world as Jeremy Scott sees it.
