Monique Lhuillier Fall 2017 is Sexy and Rich, New York Fashion Week.
I first came across the magic of designer Monique Lhuillier in 2011. I was an intern at Vogue working on a cover story featuring Michelle Williams. Every now and then, I think fondly of how I actually am the the guy who picked out the straps for the Monique Lhuillier dress that Michelle wore in Vogue. Lhuillier was still relatively unknown then and the cover was certainly a pivotal point in her career. However, even then, there was a certain aura of enchantment about the way she constructed garments. Much like a fairy tale that has matured. Yes, that’s the narrative of the Monique Lhullier aesthetic.
Deciding against her usual New York Fashion Week runway show, the Monique Lhullier Fall 2017 collection is released more intimately instead. That doesn’t imply that designer held back on theatrics. Her sense of showmanship is very much astute throughout the 35 look collection. Building upon her mastery of evening wear, Lhuillier presents a rich assortment of pieces that hit all the verticals. We see extravagant outerwear including a well-proportioned cape and fur as well as refined blouses and trousers that glitter and glint in the light. The dresses – oh the dresses. Showing off her versatility, the designer offers a brilliant array of styles including long sheer gowns, body-conscious silk lame numbers and floral mod mini-dress. Everything has a sheen too it, whether metallic or by way of embellishments.
Despite the range, the collection remains consistent in its message. Combining all the elements of sexy, rich, extravagance, Lhuillier is truly in her element.
