Kendall Jenner’s Vogue India Cover is Causing Outrage on Twitter
As of late, readers can count on seeing a Jenner/Kardashian sibling or Hadid on a top fashion magazine. This time around, it’s Kendall Jenner starring on a special 10th anniversary issue of Vogue India. Embodying the rich culture of editor Priya Tanna’s international Vogue title, Kendall Jenner goes Bollywood. Lensed by iconic photographer Mario Testino, the popular model poses in a cinematic high-fashion photo editorial.
On the dreamy cover, Kendall Jenner models a lacy Saint Laurent cocktail dress. Accompanied by a sleek beauty look, she serves up a high-fashion “Indian Affair”. Shot on location in Jaipur, the top model is joined by real Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Together, the modern pair pose against the backdrop of a palatial interior. Releasing as a limited edition issue, only 500 copies of the Kendall Jenner x Vogue India issue will be published. However, it seems that the title’s readers aren’t rushing to purchase the issue. In fact, many are sharing outrage that there isn’t an Indian actress or model on the cover.
“Why is Kendall Jenner on the Cover of Vogue India?”
Vogue India, I'm so sorry that you gave into the Eurocentric standards of beauty when gorgeous women like these exist in your country pic.twitter.com/lZK8vLSECf

Though Jenner isn’t a surprising choice for a Vogue cover, the backlash is understandable. Vogue India’s 10th anniversary issue is said to celebrate the culture of India and is even titled, “Indian Affair”. Why then, is a non-Indian American model the cover girl? Frankly, it very likely all came to down to the numbers. Kendall Jenner sells magazines, but does that fact alone justify the casting decision? These Twitter users certainly don’t think so. The comments range from asking if there’s a shortage of Indian people to blatantly asking why Vogue India chose a ‘white girl’ to represent it special Indian issue.
