Jonathan Simkhai Debuts a Romantic, Feminine Collection of Luxe Gowns and Separates for Spring Summer 2017.
Designer Jonathan Simkhai has an affinity for the woman that is neither too sensuous nor ethereal, but somewhere in-between. A lot like Mr. Valentino and Mr. Tisci’s collections, Simkhai’s aesthetic is “romantic hot” – a term fashion writers have coined for that woman that is in-between.
Simkhai’s repertoire of style nuancestypically incorporates body-con lace frocks, fluid silk dresses, and delicate knit techniques such as crochet. For Spring Summer 2017, the designer offers an added element of Romanticism, telling a fuller, more climatic story. Gowns are shredded and trimmed with lace and each piece has a certain mesmerizing luster. We saw contradicting elements of soft femininity, hardened with a modern sensibility, an acute edginess. The silhouettes were loose, and fabric danced on the models as they strut down the runway. It was a Romantic sight for sore eyes with so many womenswear designers incorporating contemporary motifs such as athleticism and androgyny into their collections.
