Véronique Nichanian Presents a Modern and Luxurious Hèrmes Mens Spring Summer 2017 Collection in Paris.
A runway show is meant to elicit emotion. It’s the designer’s greatest stage to expose the true essence of an aesthetic. For the Hèrmes Mens Spring Summer 2017 Collection, designer Véronique Nichanian offered a voyage of sorts. Utilizing a well-calculated color palette of ocean blues and calm yellow hues, the collection prompted a sedative effect. Accompanied by the presence of earthy neutral tones, there was a certain sense of proportion that intrigued the senses.
The Hèrmes Mens SS17 collection had an acute agenda, exploring the mind of man. Nichanian created looks that aimed to conquer the objectives of the leisure. The collection offered understated pieces allowing for luxury in every aspect of life. For the Hèrmes man work doesn’t end during vacation, and style is created through a commitment to a curated, almost artistic way of dressing.
Nichanian showcased an uncanny sense of balance. Closely fit trousers made of fine, thin material appeared to float across the runway. Gray suits paired with yellow traveler bags provided a modern minimalist street style approach. There was the use of thin, knit sweaters and transitional outerwear in an array of graphic patterns and ataractic colors.
There was a lack of the expected equestrian aesthetic: horses printed onto men’s tee-shirts and within complex patterns of Hèrmes classic scarves and accessories. The blue and yellow graphic print of look 16 was the singular equine textile of the entire collection. Nichanian held fast to the brand’s use of artisan leather. The material accented the pockets of tops and the straps of sandals. We also saw lightweight leather jackets and a sleek pair of leather trousers.
It’s somehow difficult to believe that next summer men will be wearing bright yellow shirts with brown leather pants. The color scheme throughout the collection kept a symbiotic balance. If a little yellow was shown here, more slate gray would be added in another detail. Saturated tones like the barrier reef blue served as a counterbalance, bringing out the richness of tan and brown shades. The designer managed to maintain an impeccable attention to detail. First grabbing our attention with intriguing colors and rich fabrics, we soon note that there is much more than meets the eye. At second glance leather pants transform into cashmere. Knit sweaters reveal hidden notes of craftsmanship.
