The aura of designer Riccardo Tisci and all the surrounds the Givenchy brand is nothing short of mesmerizing. After 10 years of elevating the brand from a slightly more straight forward ‘European Fashion’ aesthetic, Tisci has created a brand that is as much as a cultural symbol as it is clothing. It seems fitting then that the innovative designer has chosen to show this very special collection in New York for the first time.
The mood at Pier 59 was an inexplainable sort of sullen excitement. The crowd filled with A-list personalities and fellow designers alike. The faces of Nicki Minaj, Christina Ricci, Julia Roberts,  Steven Tyler, Liv Tyler, Victor Cruz, Pedro Almodóvar, and of course, Kim and Kanye painted the front rows and aisles as the more common fashion folks took in the moment and of course snapped a few obscure and obligatory snapshots. Meanwhile intermixed in the sea of celebrity we find the Proenza guys Jack McCollogh and Lazaro Hernandez, Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Joseph Altuzzarra, and everyones favorite cool kid Alexander Wang.
As the first model appears in a delicate silk top and voluminous black trousers with added bits of fabric that swept the ground we felt a certain sense of calm that is not always the norm at a Tisci production. The show progressed to include a series of super feminine dresses that may be considered lingerie if they weren’t so well designed. Interwoven into this more demure aesthetic appeared the trademark Riccardo Tisci elements: brilliant face masks and adornments, unexpected bits of luxury, and of course the silhouettes. Both seductive and confident underneath a color palette of black, white, and nude the true genius of Riccardo Tisci was revealed in its simplest and most brilliant form.
