When it comes to Winter, the mind typically travels to a darker, often arctic palette. Most designers usually follow suit, sending out collections filled with classic cold weather prints and austere colors. Luckily, American designer Christian Siriano had something a little different in mind. The past Project Runway winner presented an invigorated, fascinating notion; one that reminded us that fashion can be warm, vibrant, and sexy even on the coldest of days.
A sophisticated assortment of thick cable knit dresses, cable knit sweaters tucked into high-waisted trousers, and even cable knit scarves fixed nicely on the shoulders of models danced across Siriano’s runway. The designer’s feminine, couture inspired silhouettes were canvased in an electrifying color palette consisting of reds, yellows, and metallic-y grays and blacks, accompanied by experimental prints, as well as horizontal and vertical stripes.
Siriano’s muse for this collection was the famous American Artist, Shelia Hicks, known for her use of yarn as a medium in her work. Accompanying Hicks, the designer also referenced his roster of glamour girls including Leigh Lezark and Jamie King. Siriano explains that this latest collection is an introduction to a new aesthetic in his eveningwear: “I wanted to change it up a little, to show that evening doesn’t have to be a gown.”
Although this was a departure from his prior collections, there were still elements of the signature Christian Siriano aesthetic visible throughout. Dress-like trousers, elegant, voluminous blouses, and outerwear reworked to become couture pieces of modern interest.
Whatever this new direction of Siriano’s is, we sure are intrigued at how it has translated so far. We all  know that the designer can sculpt and exquisite gown, but now we’re intrigued to see how his refined craftsmanship translates into other markets.
