Earlier, Alexander Wang, one of fashion’s most talked about designers debuted his latest collection featuring sex, drugs, and rock and roll set in a holy landmark, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. Despite the absolutely brutal temperature outside, and all of fashions’ insiders huddling to keep warm, Wang’s collections says ‘the hell with winter’s fashion standards’ and showcases skin; Sheer tops, cut outs, shorts and miniskirts, with the occasional furry tanks, sweaters, and coats, tweed skirts and fur lined jackets, but not enough to be practical (especially on a day like this.)
But what was Wang selling? Marijuana leaf prints and cutouts on leather goods, silhouettes of exotic dancers, distressed denim, Â and bleach stained fabrics? An accurate homage to anyone’s college experience, perhaps. Suddenly the audience found themselves feeling as they they stumbled their way into a punk rock/metal bar on the Lower East Side circa early 80s, early 90s, abundant in chains, studs, velvet, and leather. If any designer can tell a thrilling, grungy, in -the-gutter type of fashion story, its Alexander Wang.
