Dior Spring/Summer 2016 Fashion Campaign: Raf Simon Celebrates Natural Beauty in his Last Dior Campaign.
The Dior Spring Summer 2016 campaign is the end of an era. It’s Raf Simons’ last campaign for the brand (insert crying face emoji) and we’re filled with mixed emotions. Photographed by Patrick Demarchelier, the ethereal fashion campaign features models Binx Walton, Sofia Mechetner, Grace Hartzel, Staz Lindes, Maartje Verhoef and Roos Abels. Shot in a soft, romantic style, the campaign focuses on natural beauty and soft femininity, two of Dior’s signature brand components.
Now that Dior is parting with its Creative Director, Raf Simmons, it leaves us speculating on what the French fashion house will do next. We’ve grown accustomed to the honesty generated by the brand over the years, and Simons’ recent appointment was pivotal. In Dior by Dior, an iconic autobiography about the brand, we witness the early days of cultivation as Christin Dior establishes the brand, eventually, elevating it to a leading Haute Couture fashion house.
There is a certain amount of mystique surrounding the brand and each Dior collection and fashion campaign has reinforced this elusive aesthetic. Classic, yet modern. Bold, yet subtle. The Dior woman evokes each of these emotions and the Dior Spring Summer 2016 campaign presents an enlivened interpretation. The beauty direction is soft and sensual. Models sport soft waves and minimal makeup allowing the cleanness of the SS16 collection to shine through. Blousy white tops, razor cut blazers, and whimsical skirts create a style that is both progressive and iconic.
As we say adieu to Raf Simmons and the contemporary mark he leaves on the Dior brand, we can be certain that something grand awaits the house of Dior as we prepare for a new era of creativity.
