Christian Siriano Spring Summer 2017 Featured a Diverse Cast of Models of All Races and Sizes.
Christian Siriano has been on a bit of a media tour as of late. This year the designer has dressed First Lady Michelle Obama for the Democratic National Convention and Comedian/Actress Leslie Jones. This was after Jones famously tweeted that there weren’t any designers willing to dress her for her Ghostbusters press tour.
Siriano proved to hold even more surprises as he debuted his richly diverse Spring Summer 2017 collection. The young designer confronted the political issues of the runway head on casting a diverse roster of models of different ethnicities and sizes. Of course, Siriano didn’t rest on the shock value of his casting skills alone. The designer’s capri inspired collection made a splash with a saturated color palette of ceruleans, vibrant tangerines, deep blues, and blacks. Styling was smart and sophisticated with some numbers more heavily styled than the rest. Take for example the black and white vertical striped blouses, found underneath the strappy, striped bra tops. There was not a dull moment to be noted in the 51 look collection. Occasionally, the audience even broken into fevers of applause, cheering at the diversity of the show – a true nod of what the consumer is sure to be thinking.
