Barnabé Hardy Presents a Progressive Carven Mens Spring Summer 2017 Collection Inspired by Activewear.
To catch a moment in movement, to stop the passing of time with a certain pastel afterthought, or to startle the population along the runway’s perimeters–if these were the intentions of Carven’s creative director, he undoubtedly succeeded. For the Carven Men’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection, Barnabé Hardy found solace in the charm of dancers. He casted Parisian dance duo, I Could Never Be a Dancer for a collection filled with momentum.
The inclination for movement is evident in the most prominent adornment: a trainer shoe, not plain, but rather mossed with hues of midnight sky, deep rusk, and powder blue. The soles of another choice of shoe, a polished loafer to be exact, held a zigzag sole. If you drag your eyes up a little towards the ankle,a splash of platinum glitter makes up a shiny sock, which resembles and embraces the dance world of color, light, and movement.
The clothes themselves were cinematic. Woody Allen would explicitly approve of the pastel-infused garb, which was a juxtaposition of comfort and formal: jogger shorts placed against button-downs, 2 piece suits accessorized with sneakers, and pullovers hanging over smoking pants. Stripes against a different hue of stripes. The shirts were shaggily untucked from one side, which complimented the unruly hair: cool-kid carelessness.
The new preppy aesthetic with a modern lime twist is in: pastels against indigos, long-sleeved tops with short bottoms, parkas over track suits, and neons against dreary dulls. Carven offered us a bit of everything in its SS17 collection.
