Chanel Cruise 2018 is Basically how Coco would have done Greece, Right? You can certainly say that Karl Lagerfeld has a bit of an obsession with theatrics. During the past three seasons, he’s taken us to places lik Dubai, Seoul Korea, and even Havana, Cuba. However, for Chanel Cruise 2018, he surprises us with a return trip home to Paris. Though, Lagerfeld’s inspiration turns out to be quite the journey in itself. Situated in the middle of a carefully re-constructed Greek Ruin, Chanel Cruise reimagines 20th century Greece for 21st century fashionistas. The crumbling columns and marble statues aren’t the only reminders of the Aegean. Lagerfeld fills the Galerie Courbe of the Grand Palais with a procession of modern fashion goddesses. Clothed in the familiar Chanel tweed, the runway is colored by a sea of pastel gladiator sandals. Avoiding cliche, Lagerfeld keeps the collection less stereotypical Greecian and more classic Chanel. In fact, he doesn’t debut the first toga inspired look until he’s sixty looks in. However, perhaps then is where the real magic happens. Overall, the Chanel Cruise 2018 collection presents an exciting focused, direction. Though, taking inspiration from 20th century Greek is by no means revolutionary, he does it well. Carefully avoiding the boundaries between costume and fashion, Chanel doesn’t compromise on luxury nor style.
