Clare Waight Keller Joins Givenchy Officially Replacing Riccardo Tisci

Clare Waight Keller Named as New Givenchy Artistic Director, Replacing Riccardo Tisci

Designer Clare Waight Keller lands Artistic Director role at Givenchy, making her Riccardo Tisci’s official replacement. The much talked about Givenchy artistic director position is one of the most lucrative in the industry today. Ironically, Tisci is responsible for much of the brand’s current celebrity status. However with its newest appointment it appears that the brand is indeed ready to change gears. Bernard Arnault, Chairman of LVMH, revealed the news by stating, “I am very happy to have Clare Waight Keller join the LVMH group”. Soon after, the news appeared on the French brand’s Instagram account. A moody black and white portrait by photographer Steven Meisel accompanied the message.

Clare Waight Keller certainly has a lot to look forward to. Her appointment makes her the first female director of the Givenchy brand. Quite surprising for a brand founded in 1952. However, this won’t be her first time leading a global luxury fashion brand. Keller’s resume began at Calvin Klein and includes stints at Gucci, Pringle of Scotland and most recently Chloe. Philippe Fortunato, chief executive of Givenchy, hints toward a new era of Givenchy. “I am very excited to see Clare bring her singular sense of elegance and modernity to Givenchy,” he said. “By exploring our maison’s 65-year heritage and the outstanding savoir-faire of its ateliers, I am convinced Clare will help Givenchy reach its full potential.” The freshman couturier will reveal her first Givenchy collection this fall in Paris. With the entire industry watching, Clare Waight Keller, faces a somewhat unfair question. How does it compare to Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy.
