Sarah Burton Debuts A Beautifully Romantic Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 2017 Collection in Paris.Northeast of Great Britain merging to form parts of Scotland lies the Shetland Islands. Earlier this year, Sarah Burton took a trip to this dreamy archipelago bringing back inspiration that would eventually guide her SS17 collection. Scottish influence is no new motif for the Alexander McQueen brand. We all remember the late designers notorious Highland Rape AW15 collection. Burton seems to have found her very own connection to the motif, creating a collection that is both Romantic and beautifully savage. Burton brought guests to a modern island voyage of sorts. Tucked away inside an orangery at the Luxembourg gardens, the designer built her runway. This was no ordinary catwalk. Reflecting the bumpy contours of the Shetland Islands, the runway rose and sunk creating a rocky terrain. Adding even more dimension, Burton covered the runway in small strips of overlapping tribal rugs. Overall, Burton’s interpretation felt fresh, light, and modern. Textiles were traditional, yet reimagined. She utilized an assortment of soft lace, leather, and dark tartan prints: black and gray. Silhouettes were feminine and the collection had a leisurely feel created by the use of RTW lingerie. Garments offered embellishments but still retained a sense of subtlety. Accessories were studded and hammered creating a vintage Rock and Roll feel. Leather, studded and painted combat boots peaked from beneath lace frocks and soft evening wear adding dynamic contrast. Aged silver chokers and ornate hoop earrings added a sense of artisanship long forgotten. Scroll below to see our favorite looks from Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 2017 below.
