Thome Browne Presents a Colorful, Parisian Inspired Spring Summer 2017 Collection at New York Fashion Week.We can all admit that New York Fashion Week can at times be a bit drab. However, among the eight long days of  oft mundane runway shows, there are always a few designers that awaken us. Thom Browne’s Spring Summer 2017 show, was that bright spot. Even getting into the door was chaos. Screaming – celebrities, fashion editors, bloggers, and photographers strategically elbowed their way into the venue. Our condolences go out to security who work the door. The show opened with a finale of sorts as the full cast of models walked methodically across the runway. Dressed in nearly identical, voluminous coats appliquéd with psychedelic flowers and hats to match, we knew we were in for something brilliant. The models quickly assembled into formation and on cue began to take off their coats. Mesmerizing the audience with an assortment of bright, whimsical dresses the runway blossomed with life. Each garment had a surreal quality to it. Tailoring motifs such as suit ties and sweaters were etched into the fabric causing us to take a second and often times third look. Browne utilized imaginative topstitch techniques and weaving ribbons to create the illusion of layering. “The inspiration was taking tailored clothing and troupe l’oeiling it into one piece that zips down the back referencing a wetsuit. The colors and patterns also referencing that iconic point in time for American clothes,” Browne shared.
