Italian Fashion Brand Salvatore Ferragamo Presents its Spring Summer 2017 Mens Collection in Milan.
As of March 2016, designer Massimiliano Giornetti left his position as creative director at Salvatore Ferragamo. The designer worked as creative director for Salvatore Ferragamo for six years. Giornetti showed his last collection in Milan, in February for the FW16 season. The Florence based, Italian luxury brand announced that they would rely on their in-house team to continue in designing for the brand. This decision backs the company’s effort to reach Millennials and a younger generation of consumers and to strategize their digital communication.
The Men’s SS17 collection, showcased in Milan fronted itself to be the first collection without the Italian brand’s designer, Massimiliano Giornetti, following his exit. As a result of the in-house team of designers, the collection remained very true to Salvatore Ferragamo’s brand DNA. Suits were precisely tailored. Accessories were strong as to be expected, and were enhanced by their own design. Outwear was voluminous and contrasting in its form to the body. Smoking jackets had a strong presence while the overall palette of the collection was rich in its tones.
The collection was quite simple, or minimalistic in its aesthetic and allowed the audience to truly focus on the structural details of the garments: the wide cut pockets, the clean crisp tailoring, the slightly dropped crotch, cinched belted waists, or the precise hem of slimly sewn crop pants. The color tones ranged from neutrals, to jewel tones to exploration hues: as in mustard yellow, khaki tones, army green. The prints remained subtle, yet strong in their nature and included bold, abstract, painted prints, and a great deal of striping. In terms of accessories, open toed sandals were walked alongside formal yet transitional brogues. Brooches and aviator sunglasses dresses the models. Many models were seen accompanied by a minimalistic weekend bag or backpack.
The collection held a captivating presence in its manner, and remained true to the brand’s identity. It proved the strength in the in-house team and craftsmanship of Salvatore Ferragamo and it’s long proven legacy.
