Lanvin Mens Spring Summer 2017: Lucas Ossendrijver Presents a Romantic Mens SS17 Collection in Paris.
Lanvin finds itself in a Renaissance period of sorts. With the recent dismissal of Creative Director, Alber Elbaz and the appointment of Bouchra Jarrar, the design direction of the brand is at a stalemate. The house’s menswear designer Lucas Ossendrijver has chosen to use the period to fuel the brand’s aesthetic presenting a Mens SS17 collection which he notes, “I decided to be creative. There’s not much else I can do.”
As much as it is undone, it is well put-together, as if the ensembles belonged to their bearers. Incoherent in a brilliant approach. The clothes were disheveled. We saw plaid two-piece suits draped over open button ups which revealed more layers beneath.“My goal has always been to make the clothes look like they belong to him,” Ossendrijver shared with WWD.
The show opens up with a “the beach-hippies-meet-the-hipsters-meet-the-60s look. An unbuttoned striped shirt tucked in under a quote-printed mid-section appears styled with a medley of chokers and long necklaces, completed with an unstructured hooded parka. The color palette is dark with light contrasts seen in undergarments and accessories. Long socks, chokers, neon shoe laces and unforgettable tiny quotes are seen plastered on waistlines and shirts.
Pant waists are higher this season at Lanvin. A nod towards the vintage-y feel the new collection flaunts. Everything is shaggy, layered, and all is belted– usually with an arrow or a hand buckle, a shoe string in a neon hue dangling gloriously from a belt loop.
Lucas Ossendrijver doesn’t stray far from the traditional Lanvin aesthetic in his mens SS17 collection. It seems this season, menswear designs are embracing lightness in parkas and coats–a yes to utilitarian concepts and ease, and the unforgettable 90’s nostalgia. The presence of details like chokers and athletic references create a throwback, worn-in vibe.
