Belstaff Spring Summer 2017 Mens: On Any Sunday

Belstaff Mens Spring Summer 2017: Belstaff Presents A Cinematic SS17 Collection Filled with Heritage Motorcycle Culture Inspired Pieces.

Belstaff is iconic for its timeless collection of leather outerwear. Bridging the gap between form and functionality the design house has played a surprisingly colorful role throughout history. From early trailblazers like Amelia Earhart Amelia Earhart and Amy Johnson in the 20s and 30s to modern day ambassadors Kate Moss and David Beckham, the British brand has a knack for attracting influential talent. Belstaff’s Spring Summer 2017 collection takes notes from everything that the brand has learned over the past 90 years and adds a cinematic twist. Inspired by the 1971 motorcycle film, On Any Sunday, starring Steve McQueen, the heritage brand offers updates on favorites and a glimpse at the future.

The venue was grand as was the atmosphere surrounding the stately Queen Elizabeth II Centre. Situated opposite Westminster Abbey, guests entered the Belstaff SS17 presentation amidst a silent chatter from an even more exclusive event just a stone’s throw away, HRH Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday luncheon.

“This season we were really taken by the 1971 documentary On Any Sunday which starred and was funded by Steve McQueen, himself a motorcycle fanatic. That period was also a defining time for Belstaff because leather manufacturers on both sides of the Atlantic were really embracing this idea of personalising leatherwear and so began an era of strong colour direction which we’ve really tapped into for summer,” shared Frederik Dyhr, Belstaff VP Men’s Design in an official statement. The collection embodied the film with much more than motif. The spirit of the collection was decisively rebellious with a timeless feel. The color palette appeared slightly washed out with a focus on earthy greens, browns, and whites. Accents of red made an appearance as star shaped leather appliques and stripes adorning jackets and motorcycle trousers. Quilting stitch details on leather trousers and argyle applique details on leather moto-jackets added a newfound freshness to typical biker gang apparel.

Texture plays a big role this season for Belstaff. This latest collection offers a vintage feeling mix of denim, leather, and knitwear. Leather trousers are paired with basic t’s and knitwear. Outerwear takes on many forms. Transitional denim jackets appear alongside jeans for a grunge inspired vibe. Several key looks offer a full-on biker gang uniform. Belstaff also included five looks from the Women’s Spring ’17 Pre-Collection, sharing an identical ’70s inspired moto-gang aesthetic. Cool ivory knitwear appears alongside matching ivory outerwear and crisp white denim for a rugged, monochromatic feel. We even saw some a tulle skirt styled with a leather moto-jacket of course.
