Gucci Mens Spring Summer 2017: Alessandro Michele Presents A Colorfully Eclectic Gucci Mens SS17 Collection in Milan.
Alessandro Michele opened the doors to an intriguing, saturated world filled with color and oddities with his Gucci Men’s Spring Summer 2017 Collection. Far away from the city of Milan, we quickly find ourselves immersed in a surreal dreamscape. Since accepting the position of creative director in January 2015, Michele has transformed the vision and dynamic Gucci. His more is more, maximalist mentality has gifted the house of Gucci with consecutive collections of eclectic, eccentric designs that continue to push fashion forward.
The men’s SS17 collection expanded on the idea of travel, the allusion to a journey, like that of Marco Polo. The designer shared with VOGUE, “I hate traveling but there are so many ways to do it, whether in your mind, or in changing the tapestry of a chair, or through the pages of a book.” This belief alone practiced by Michele provides reasoning as to the inspiration in his genius: Alessandro Michele travels through the exploration of his designs.
A Gucci serpent snaked through the venue seats and the floor of the runway. Acid colors and lighting set the tone. This particular show proved important in its direction as it was announced that this was the last Gucci menswear show. Alessandro Michele has chosen to present the womenswear and menswear collections in its entirety in one show, together. While this collection may allude to a journey, it is evident that this show is not just the influence of design, but also the representative journey that Gucci is embarking on. The collection speaks to the future of men’s fashion week as it is questioned whether other top fashion houses will follow suit.
The Gucci Mens SS17 collection was embellished and encrusted in its expected ornate fashion. Seventies silhouettes walked the runway, while Japanese kimono designs with serpent printed smoking slippers provided moments of intrigue. Floral suiting accented with whimsical patchwork introduced a heirloom vibe.  There was a feeling that the pieces were found over a series of decades or passed down and updated with details such as appliqué embellishments.
The models walked the serpent-covered floor in candy colored pastels. The coveted yet seemingly Canal street knockoff Gucci tee was prominent on numerous occasions. Donald Duck also possessed strong prominence in the collection. Suede oriental coats with gold embellishments were breathtaking in their features. The collection pieces designed by the mesmerizing creative, Alessandro Michele, represented discovery.
