Coach 1941: Coach Celebrates 75 Years With Vevers’ Unique Way Of Paying Homage To All Things Americana.
Since Stuart Vevers was appointed Creative Director of Coach 1941, his fascination with American lifestyle has become exceedinglyÂ profound. Vevers, himself is of English decent, chartered an unexpected route in his latest showing for the brand.
Instead of incorporating traditional British concepts of tailoring into Coach Menswear, he chose to embrace the All-American way of life. An excellent followup toÂ his previous homage to theÂ Beastie Boys meets Beach Boys collection for Spring 2016.
For the Coach 1941 Â Fall/Winter 2016 collection think 70s hip-hop meets Bruce Springsteen. The two concepts may not mesh naturally in one’s mind, but Vevers sure enough found a way to make usÂ think twice.
‘Born In The USA’ read the bandannas tied around the models’ necks, reminding us ofÂ two concepts at play. Silhouettes were loose and baggy; from the looser fitting trousers, over-sized leather jackets, to theÂ bucket hats sitting low on heads.
The palette remained unapologetically neutral, paying true homage to the 70s. Vevers also employed the use of classic menswear staples including simple leather jackets, fluffy fur coats, no frills flannel shirts, and down jackets; with each piece having a slight woodsmanÂ aesthetic to it.
One might say this collection is basic, but no doubt, the craftsmanship was apparent. Vevers calls it “heroing the Blue Collar“, making it all look easy. And perhaps, that is the true American way: making everything look easy.
