This isn’t the first time that Vikander’s on screen performances have translated into editorial projects. A favorite of Louis Vuitton’s artistic director, Nicholas Ghesquière, Alicia appeared in the brand’s FW15 ad campaign alongside Jennifer Connelly and Rianne Van Rompaey Photographed by industry icon Juergen Teller.

“I push myself hard,” she shared with Vogue. “I don’t like pain, exactly, but as a ballerina I lived in constant pain. At ballet school in Stockholm, I remember we had a locker where if someone had been to the doctor and gotten painkillers, we divided them among us. In a sense we were all addicted. After I quit dancing, for a while it felt strange not to be in pain. It was as if an old friend, not a good friend but a presence, always tagging along, had left me.”

Alicia’s latest project by Tom Hooper titled, The Danish Girl, is anticipated to be her best project yet. The poignant story of Lili Elbe (played by Eddie Redmanye), a Danish artist who underwent the first known gender-confirmation surgery in the 1930s, thrusts Vikander into the spotlight as Gerda, Lili’s wife who struggles with the emotional trauma of losing her husband and attempting to understand a process that was very new at the time.
