Prada SS16 Collection Milan Fashion Week Spring 2016

Miuccia Prada, a name synonymous with creating trends and articulately seducing the fashion world with a distinctly eclectic perspective. The eponymous brand has come to symbolize a pinnacle in the world of fashion. Intelligence, luxury, art, minimalism, opulence; in many ways Prada has become the barometer of aesthetic. It is the new representation of classic.

While we never know exactly what to expect from a Prada show, what we do know is that we’ll be inspired and perhaps at times a little perplexed. The mood was vibrant, even in the absence of Miuccia Prada herself, who was away due to the death of her beloved aunt. The scene was grand, but not at all in the usual overdone saturated way. Instead plates of austere plexiglass hung loosely from the ceiling creating suspended bits of light that reflected the cool gray concrete beneath. The entire affair was both intimate and detached, the epitome of any Prada showing.

The Prada woman of Spring 2016 is cerebral and has an affinity for artistic proportions. Silhouettes were linear and somewhat boxy, but not at all in a constricting or overtly modern way. Instead long jackets hung loosely while a myriad of print and sheer skirts swayed ever so promptly beneath. The palette was vibrant and euphoric, a sensational blend of bright pinks, yellows, and orange darted and weaved with more hardened tweeds and stripes. There was also special attention payed to the shoes. Low profile and strappy sandals complimented sophisticated ensembles while retro inspired metallic boots added an extra bit of luxurious playfulness to the collection.

The message of the Spring 2016 Prada show was straight forward and honest. It was a reflection on a persistent ethic to innovate and edit. Prada isn’t for the old nor the young, it’s for those who dare to live in the wonder of now, a true testament of any great brand.
