Breakout actor Lupita Nyong’o has been one of fashion’s favorite muses since her break out performance in her hit film ’12 Years A Slave’, and it doesn’t appear that the 32 year old starlet is leaving the spotlight any time soon as she finds her self on the cover of Vogue Magazine for the second time. The upcoming Star Wars actor is absolutely radiant in the editorial spread photographed by fashion duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot as she poses in some of our favorite FW 15 collection pieces from designers including Givenchy, Gaultier, and Maison Margiela.
Lupita also gives in to the now customary 73 Question with Vogue Video and reveal everything from her favorite type of pizza to how she learned to cry on demand, and that her favorite rap lyrics to be, “We want a lady in the street, but a freak in the bed.”
The actor’s cover story isn’t all shimmer and glamour however, the star allows the magazine an intimate look into her life as she recalls some of the rougher part of her childhood. Lupita’s father lived in self imposed exile in Mexico for a year, where Lupita was born, in order to protect his family from the opposing Moi regime in Naiorbi. We “had to destroy a lot of his documents. I wasn’t allowed to go to school. We were basically locked up in the house. The curtains were shut all the time, and we were just burning papers.” She says the experience made her resilient. “I was definitely exposed to some extreme situations. Tragedy is something that I have known and that I have tried to accept as part of life. But I don’t dwell on it. . . . OK! I need to powder my nose!”
The true brilliance of Nyongo’s career of course is her craft, something that she takes very seriously. When asked how she’s able to act ‘anything’?, she shares that, “My training at Yale is the core of the actor that I am. Before that I was just going on instinct . . . having my imagination take over. But Yale taught me that it’s about giving yourself permission to pretend.”
