Billy Reid Men’s Fall Winter 2017-2018 is All About the Jacket.
Alabama born designer Billy Reid offers a classic lesson in men’s style with his latest collection. Returning to New York after a Season down South, Reid focuses his attention on “balance” and “lived in luxury” for Men’s Fall 2017. Showcasing an assortment of southern haberdashery meets contemporary street style, the collection bridges the divide between worn in and new. Classic pieces like dress trousers and knitwear are given an extra bit of character with the use of fabrics like washed corduroys and boiled wools. The highs and lows are also balanced through the use of color. The palette spanned from buttery creams to metallic grays and deep sand tones.
The true genius of the Billy Reid Men’s Fall Winter 2017-2018 collection, however, is all about the jacket. Every one of the designer’s 22 looks was paired with outerwear of some sort. From lightweight wool cardigans to trench coats and even shearling. Overall, the collection possessed a certain tidiness and togetherness, both of which were a goal for Reid this time around. “I love to work with fabrics and colors, but sometimes I can get very elaborate,” Reid shared. “This time I think I learned the balance.” I must agree. Well balanced and well edited, indeed.
