Nike Lab x Olivier Rousteing: Nike teams up with Creative Director Olivier Rousteing for Latest Fashion meets Sportswear Collection, “Football Nouveau”.
Transitional fashion has ruled the runway and retail charts for a few Season’s now, and Nike’s latest collaboration leads us to believe that Athleisure just may be a trend that’s here to stay. Teaming up with Balmain’s Creative Director and one of fashion’s most influential power players, Olivier Rousteing, NikeLab announces it’s latest fashion focused collaboration.
The NikeLab x Oliver Rousteing collection, titled “Football Nouveau” is inspired by the designer’s love for the world’s most popular sport (European football), also known as Soccer for the rest of us. Besides Rousteing’s professed love of the sport, the collaboration comes at a prime time as far as the business of fashion is concerned. Soccer fans are known to be some of the most loyal and (shall we say intense) crowds in the world of sporting events and this latest collection comes just in time for one of the most anticipated soccer tournaments of the year, EURO 2016. Add that to the designers unofficial #Balmain army of supermodels and social Influencers including Joan Smalls, Jourdan Dunn, Kim Kardashian, Kendall and Kylie Jenner and NikeLab has created the perfect formula for a high-profile collection.
The inspired collection, consisting of sleek black and gold footwear and apparel is a marriage of Rousteing’s signature statement making aesthetic and Nike’s remarkable ability to tap into social and cultural trends. The designer shared his thought process behind the colors in a behind the scenes video,“I really wanted to mix black and gold,” he says. “Black because it’s sleek and chic and at the same time timeless, and the gold is about victory; it’s about winning.”
Despite Rousteing’s high-profile roster of clients and unofficial title of Personal Designer to the Kardashian and Jenner clan, the designer seems to still be remarkably humbled as he shares, “When Nike contacted me to collaborate with them, I was really proud,” Rousteing said in a statement. “Collaborating with Nike is not only making clothes or sneakers – it is being part of a universal vision.”
Launching on June 2, the NikeLab “Football Nouveau” collection will draw a diverse crowd of fashion enthusiasts and sneaker fanatics alike. Introducing four styles of sneakers: the Magista football boot, the Free Mercurial Flyknit, the Roshe Tiempo VI, and the Hypervenom 2 alongside a selection of sweatshirts; track pants; and a reinvention of the iconic N98 jacket (cut to create the illusion of a perfect hour glass silhouette), Rousteing will certainly be recruiting a few more members to his army of style followers.
