Balenciaga Fall Winter 2016: The French Fashion House Presents a Theatrical Fall Winter 2016 Collection During Paris Fashion Week.
“How do you persuade a woman to wear a two-piece suit?” Denma Gvasalia asked himself whilst creating Balenciaga’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection. Gvasalia continued explaining his design process admitting to skipping sketching all together and rather create on a whim, the fabric guiding him on where it wants to fall and voilá, a collection is born.
This season, Gvasalia presented futuristic silhouettes: the shoulders on outerwear and blazers were curved, the jackets were cut in in a way that leaned forward, the stilettos curved inward, and the skirts had volume in the middle. There wear ski pants, padded scarves, multi-floral dresses, and oversized puffers. Most of  the outerwear in the collection (including puffers, leather jackets, shearling coats, and trench coats) were styled deliberately off of the shoulders creating an illusion that the garments would slip down the body of the wearer, onto the floor.
There was a lot to take in, but Gvasalia often thought back to what a woman would desire to have in her wardrobe. Perhaps Gvasalia has just showed all of us that we can still wear our bohemian floral print dresses and sparkly costume jewelry underneath our puffer coats and padded scarves without shame next winter.
