Agi & Sam Spring Summer 2017: A Man and his Cow.
Flowers adhered to the face, latex dishwashing ready leather gloves and a screen printed t-shirt of dad, these are few of our favorite things. These eclectic design statements are amongst a collection of moments seen at Agi & Sam’s Spring 2017 Mens Collection during London Fashion Week: Mens.
The collection had a feminine touch and not solely due to the mix of menswear and menswear collection. The inspiration behind this Season’s masterpiece? A man and his cow. Designer Sam Cotton offered more insight to WWD backstage,  “It started off from looking at my dad. He used to work as a farmer. Weirdly, he got bitten by a cow when he was worming it, on his hand, and he got tetanus. So my mum went to work and he started to be a house husband. So we started to look at how roles are defined in the home and why men have to be the breadwinner . . .”
Fast forward to present time and we’re offered a collection that speaks volumes on the ideas of gender bending and fluidity. In the duo’s quirky family tale, Agi and Sam present an array of modern and visually stimulating statements. Suiting was cut softer adding a feminine touch seen through more relaxed shoulders and shortened hemlines and sleeves. We also took note of new, slimmer silhouettes. Slim trousers, cropped utility jackets, and botanical jacquards really enhanced the whole cool “stay at home” dad vibe.
There were even elements of that pesky cow. Well constructed outerwear appeared, fashioned from calf hair adding a new dimension of texture. The Womenswear looks in the collection mirrored the men’s collection. Waists were nipped in, the same gingham emerged, and oversized, softened trench coats stole the show. Although it was a rather unfortunate chain of events for Cotton’s father, it made the Agi & Sam Spring Summer 2017 runway all the more interesting.
