Rihanna’s Fenty Puma brand is proving to be more than just another celebrity fashion line. Returning for a third fashion week showing, the entertainer presents Fenty x Puma Fall 2017. For this latest affair, we venture off to Paris and back to school. Inviting guests to Paris’ Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Rihanna shows us just how she got her ‘bad gal’ moniker. “In Barbados, we don’t get to dress up in school,” Rihanna told WWD. “It’s strictly school uniforms. Every time I would come to America, I would see kids getting into dressing up…this was my way of expressing myself in that avenue, having fun, creating looks that blended with the different cliques and marrying that world with sport.”
What exactly do school kids wear in the world of Rihanna Fenty Puma? The answer is rebellious, sexy, and sporty: Whatever the hell they want. The collection presented an assortment of classic adolescent fashion personas. Characters including goths, punks, school girls, jocks and preps set the mood. However, this isn’t your average clique. Classic pieces like sweaters, tracksuits, and outerwear receive the Rihanna Fenty treatment. Take for instance, extra slouchy sweaters doubling as mini-skirts and at other times sexy crop tops. There was a certain Ralph Lauren-esque aesthetic present. Mainly in the form of a green and navy tartan print as well as chevron stripes.
Similar to past Seasons, the Rihanna Fenty Puma Fall 2017 collection explores outerwear. This time around, the focus is on collegiate feeling down jackets and parkas. The sporty styles get an update with extra-long, floor length silhouettes and bright color. Rihanna’s iconic Puma Creeper also makes an appearance in the form of a chunky, platform boot. A fitting compliment to a runway full of towering style personalities.
In all, Fenty x Puma AW/17 was a success. The collection is cohesive and posses both commercial and editorial appeal. Rihanna, herself, seems to be content with her latest showing. The starlet took to Instagram to share her enthusiasm the morning after.
