Missy Elliott Rocks Supa Dupa Fly Outfits in ELLE
Known around for the world for her electrifying music and style, Missy Misdemeanor Elliott makes an appearance on the cover of ELLE. Sporting a retro Adidas tracksuit, the Get Ur Freak On rapper re-interprets her signature style once again. Donning an oversize knit beanie and high fashion beauty look, Missy Elliott is definitely still supa dupa fly.
Lensed by photographer Mark Seliger, the hip-hop icon is seen in a selection of sporty athleisure styles. In addition to her signature track jackets, the grammy winner also showcases a denim on denim look and lots of bling. However, these aren’t the Adidas tracksuits that Missy is known for. Instead the 45-year-old sports high-fashion interpretations from Versus Versace and Marc Jacobs. The designer, himself, seems to have had a hand in the decision. He emphatically shares the cover announcement on his personal instagram account.
Inside her ELLE cover story, Missy Elliot reflects on her 20 year career in music. With over 500 songs and production credits for artists including Ciara, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston there’s certainly a lot to discuss. Starting with the topic of Missy Elliott outfits, the iconic black trash bag look comes up. “To me, the outfit was a way to mask my shyness behind all the chaos of the look. [it] was a symbol of power. I loved the idea of feeling like a hip-hop Michelin woman,” she tells Elle. “It was bold and different. I’ve always seen myself as an innovator and a creative unlike any other.”
